D-backs recall Stefan Crichton, Kevin Cron, Jon Duplantier, Caleb Joseph and Robby Scott from Triple-A Reno; select Abraham Almonte from Reno

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled RHP Stefan Crichton (stef-FON CRY-ton), INF Kevin Cron (@kevin_cron24), RHP Jon Duplantier (doo-PLON-tee-AY) (@dup_thereitis), C Caleb Joseph (@CamelBackstop) and LHP Robby Scott (@RobbyScott36) from Triple-A Reno. Arizona also selected the contract of OF Abraham Almonte from Reno. The D-backs’ active roster is now at 31 and the 40-man roster is at 39.

Crichton, 27, has held opponents scoreless in 11 of 15 relief appearances for the D-backs this season with a 4.05 ERA (9 ER in 20.0 IP), .216 opponent average, 18 strikeouts and a 1.05 WHIP (16 H, 5 BB). He is holding left-handed hitters to a .179 average (5-for-28) with 5 strikeouts. In 36 relief appearances for Reno, he was 4-3 with 1 save and a 3.61 ERA (23 ER in 57.1 IP), including 7 consecutive scoreless appearances (9.2 IP) to end the season.

Cron, 26, is hitting .207 (12-for-58)/.266 OBP/.534 SLG with 4 doubles, 5 home runs, 15 RBI and 4 walks in 27 games for the D-backs this season.

The Pacific Coast League mid-and postseason All-Star leads all Minor League players with 39 home runs, a .777 slugging pct. and a 1.223 OPS this season. His home run total is tied for the most all-time by a D-backs farmhand (also: Alex Cabrera in 2000), and the most by a Minor Leaguer overall since Dylan Cozens (40) for Double-A Reading in 2016. In 82 games at Reno, he hit .331 (101-for-305)/.449 OBP/.777 SLG with 20 doubles, 1 triple, 38 home runs, 105 RBI and 61 walks. He also made 2 rehab appearances for the AZL D-backs, going 1-for-5 with 1 home run and 2 RBI.

Duplantier, 25, has pitched in 9 games (3 starts) for the D-backs this season, going 1-1 with 1 save, a 4.33 ERA (13 ER in 27.0 IP), .260 opponent average, 26 strikeouts and 12 walks, including holding lefties to a .233 average (10-for-43). In 13 games (11 starts) at Reno, he was 1-2 with a 5.21 ERA (22 ER in 38.0 IP), .233 opponent average and 44 strikeouts. 

Joseph, 33, has appeared in 13 games for the D-backs this season, batting .143 (4-for-28) with 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 4 runs scored. In 48 games with the Aces in 2019, Joseph hit .265 (43-for-162)/.324 OBP/.481 SLG with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 26 RBI, 13 walks and 29 runs scored, including a .315 (17-for-54) mark with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 6 RBI against left-handed pitching.

Joseph spent the majority of 2018 with the Orioles, throwing out 32.2-percent of attempted basestealers (19-of-59). The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder played in 5 Major League seasons with the Orioles from 2014-18 and batted .224 (272-for-1,217) with 56 doubles, 4 triples, 31 home runs and 122 RBI in 402 games.

Scott, 30, has appeared in 3 games for Arizona this season, posting a 4.91 ERA (2 ER in 3.2 IP) with 6 strikeouts. In 41 relief appearances for Reno this season, he was 3-0 with 1 save, a 6.94 ERA (37 ER in 48.0 IP), .231 opponent average and 61 strikeouts. He held lefties to a .186 average (13-for-70) with 29 strikeouts. He also made 2 appearances at Double-A Jackson, working 3.0 scoreless innings as opponents went 0-for-9 with 1 strikeout.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder was acquired by the D-backs from the Red Sox on December 30, 2018. In 3 seasons for the Red Sox (2016-18), he made 73 relief appearances and went 3-2 with a 3.91 ERA (21 ER in 48.1 IP), .217 opponent average and 44 strikeouts. He has held lefties to a .165 average (16-for-97) with 29 strikeouts in his career.

Almonte, 30, who will wear No. 48, hit .270 (86-for-319)/.382 OBP/.558 SLG with 33 doubles, 4 triples, 17 home runs, 59 RBI, 60 walks and 12 stolen bases in 91 games for the Aces in 2019, including a .358 (24-for-67) mark with runners in scoring position. He made 58 appearances (52 starts) in center field and 31 appearances (25 starts) in right field.

The 5-foot-9, 230-pound, switch-hitting outfielder is a career .237 (236-for-996)/.294 OBP/.367 SLG hitter with 55 doubles, 12 triples, 17 home runs and 93 RBI in 352 career games over parts of 6 Major League seasons with the Mariners (2013-14), Padres (’14-15), Indians (’15-17) and Royals (’18). Almonte has played 157 games in center field, 80 in right field and 79 in left field. He signed with the D-backs as a Minor League free agent on November 6, 2018.
