D-backs recalled Andy Young from alternate training site; optioned Josh Rojas to alternate training site following last night’s game

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled INF/OF Andy Young (@andyjyoung15) from the Alternate Training Site today after optioning INF/OF Josh Rojas to the Alternate Training Site following last night’s game.

Young, 26, will wear No. 14 in his Major League debut. The native of West Fargo, N.D. will become the third player from North Dakota to play for the D-backs (Rick Helling, Tim Olson).

In 2019, Young hit .271 (125-for-462)/.368 OBP/.535 SLG with 25 doubles, 5 triples, 29 home runs, 81 RBI and 42 walks in 133 combined games between Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Reno.

In 68 games for Reno, he hit .280 (67-for-239)/.373 OBP/.611 SLG with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 21 homers, 53 RBI and 24 walks.

Defensively last season, he played 69 games (67 starts) at second base, 33 games (28 starts) at shortstop and 29 games (25 starts) at third base.

The 6-foot-0, 200-pounder was acquired by the D-backs on Dec. 5, 2018 from the Cardinals along with C Carson Kelly, RHP Luke Weaver and a competitive balance draft pick (OF Dominic Fletcher) for INF Paul Goldschmidt. He was the Cardinals’ 37th-round selection in the 2016 draft out of Indiana State University. 

Rojas, 26, appeared in 1 game with Arizona this season.
