October 3rd, 2021

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced David Peralta as the winner of the seventh annual Luis Gonzalez Award, which is given to the D-backs player who best exemplifies the talents, spirit and heart of the D-backs legend both on and off the field, including baseball accomplishments, community impact and fan engagement, as voted on by his teammates, coaches and staff members.

In addition to the Luis Gonzalez Award, Peralta is the D-backs’ nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award for the first time in his career and is a candidate for the national award, which will be announced at the World Series.

Peralta is the longest-tenured active D-back, in his eighth season having debuted in 2014 just ahead of teammate Nick Ahmed. The 34-year-old outfielder enters today ranked among franchise leaders [min. 300 games] in triples (2nd, 44), hits (3rd, 891), total bases (4th, 1,445), games (5th, 873), extra-base hits (5th, 314), RBI (5th, 427), average (7th, .286), home runs (8th, 98), OPS (12th, .806), slugging pct. (12th, .463), walks (12th, 252) and on-base pct. (15th, .342).

Gonzalez is one of the most popular figures in Arizona Diamondbacks history because of the way he interacted with fans and his game-winning single in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series to give the organization its first world championship. Gonzalez became the first former D-back to have his number (No. 20) retired in 2010.
