September 16th, 2019

MINNEAPOLIS – Chicago White Sox rookie outfielder Eloy Jiménez has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period of September 9-15.

Jiménez, 22, went 10-23 (.435) with one double, three home runs, 11 RBI, three walks, six runs scored, three multihit efforts and a 1.370 OPS over six games during the stretch. He hit a grand slam on September 10 vs. Kansas City as part of back-to-back four-RBI games vs. the Royals (also September 11). Jiménez became the youngest White Sox player with consecutive four-RBI efforts, and the first Sox player overall since Alexei Ramírez on August 17-18, 2008.

This marks the fourth league award for the White Sox this season. Tim Anderson earned AL Player of the Month honors for April, and Lucas Giolito was named AL Pitcher of the Month for May and AL Player of the Week for May 27-June 2.

Jiménez is hitting .259/.309/.489 (110-425) with 15 doubles, 27 home runs, 69 RBI, 60 runs scored and a .799 OPS in 112 games this season, his first with the White Sox. He ranks among the AL rookie leaders in home runs (1st), total bases (1st, 208), RBI (2nd), runs scored (2nd), extra-base hits (2nd, 43) and hits (T2nd). His 27 homers are tied for the third-most by a White Sox rookie in a single season.
