Mariners trade Minor League catcher Jose Lobaton to Dodgers

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has traded minor league catcher Jose Lobaton to Los Angeles-NL in exchange for cash considerations.

Lobaton, 34, has spent the 2019 season with AAA Tacoma, batting .236 (68x288) with 34 runs scored, 18 doubles, 13 home runs and 38 RBI in 75 games. He originally signed with the Mariners to a minor league contract on January 24, 2019.

Lobaton has played 17 professional seasons, including parts of 9 Major League seasons with San Diego (2009), Tampa Bay (2011-13), Washington (2014-17) and New York-NL (2018). He originally signed with San Diego as a free agent on May 13, 2002 and made his Major League debut with the Padres on July 5, 2009 vs. Los Angeles-NL. Over the course of his Major League career, he is batting .215 (244x1134) with 109 runs scored, 47 doubles, 4 triples, 21 home runs, 107 RBI and 121 walks in 413 career games. In the minors, he is batting .259 (610x2353) with 293 runs scored, 146 doubles, 5 triples, 74 home runs, 333 RBI and 310 walks in 700 career games.
