Miami Marlins to celebrate City Connect launch with weekend activities, May 21-23

May 21st, 2021

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced the lineup of weekend activities surrounding the club’s new City Connect uniform launch. The activities begin on Friday with a first look of Folklore, a new art installation on the West Plaza at loanDepot park, consisting of four shipping containers creatively painted and stacked to serve as unique scenes perfect for sharing across social media. Each container features elements inspired by Miami’s City Connect uniform that were painted by Puerto Rican artist Carlitos Skills. Fans can get an up-close look at Folklore as it approaches completion.

Fans can visit Folklore prior to Marlins home games and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on non-gamedays, and are encouraged to use the hashtag #JuntosMiami when posting on social media. The Marlins will have additional activities taking place each day of the weekend, May 21-23, with a pregame DJ on the West Plaza and the Marlins Pachanga Band in the stands each day.

  • On Friday, May 21, the Marlins will have a pregame cafecito station, providing fans with complimentary coffee from Marlins partner Café La Rica.
  • The Marlins will host Cuban Heritage Celebration on Saturday, May 22, with a postgame concert on the West Plaza, presented by Truly Hard Seltzer, by the Celia Cruz All-Stars. There will be a guarapo (sugar cane juice) sampling station pregame providing fans drinks to go alongside the City Connect uniform inspired by the Cuban Sugar Kings. Additionally, Cookie Rojas, who played for the Cuban Sugar Kings, will be a VIP guest and make the ceremonial “Play Ball” announcement. The Marlins will also hold a special pregame in-memoriam recognizing local sportscasting legends who have recently passed.
  • The weekend concludes with the return of the pregame cafecito station on Sunday, May 23, providing fans with complimentary coffee from Marlins partner Café La Rica. Additionally, the family of Bobby Maduro (son, grandson and great grandchildren) – who established the Cuban Sugar Kings – will be in attendance as VIP guests of the Marlins to make the ceremonial “Play Ball” announcement.

Additionally, a full retail activation will be in place at CityPlace Doral from 12-8 p.m. on Saturday and 12-7 p.m. on Sunday, providing fans additional opportunities to score Marlins City Connect merchandise. Fans can catch the Marlins take on the Mets as a giant jumbotron will televise the games. In addition, guests can enjoy live art by local graffiti artist SURGE, music, and photo opportunities with City Connect Cuban Sugar Kings branding. Novecento and SuViche will feature a signature Legado Mojito all weekend in celebration of the Marlins City Connect uniform.

The Marlins unveiled the club’s new City Connect Series uniform, developed and designed in partnership with Nike and MLB, on Monday, May 17 and will debut the new uniform throughout the weekend of May 21-23, following Cuban Independence Day on May 20. The new uniform speaks to the legacy, culture, passion and pride for baseball in the South Florida community, while celebrating the personality and confidence of our city. The Marlins City Connect uniform is inspired by Latin America’s contribution to baseball, with a legacy red jersey that captures the energetic vibe and culture throughout South Florida and Latin America.

Merchandise from Nike City Connect is available at the New Era Team Store at loanDepot park, a Fanatics Experience, as well as Marlins.com/CityConnect, SNKRS, the Nike App, nike.com, and select retail locations.
