Pirates claim infielder Corban Joseph off waivers from San Francisco

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed infielder Corban Joseph off waivers from the San Francisco Giants. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 30-year-old Joseph spent a majority of the 2019 season with Triple-A Las Vegas, where he hit .371 (142-for-383) with 35 doubles, 13 home runs, 73 RBI, 63 runs scored and 1.006 OPS in 97 games. He finished the year ranked second in the Pacific Coast League in batting average, fifth in on-base percentage (.421), eighth in slugging percentage (.585), sixth in OPS, tied for eighth in hits and fifth in doubles.

He also hit a combined .151 (8-for-53) with a pair of doubles, home run and seven RBI in 19 games this season between Oakland and San Francisco before being designated for assignment on Saturday by the Giants.

Joseph has appeared in a combined 35 games in the big leagues with the Yankees (2013), Orioles (2018), A’s (2019) and Giants (2019).

Joseph, who is expected to join the Pirates tomorrow, will wear uniform #75.

To make room for Joseph on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Chris Archer has been transferred from the 10- to the 60-day injured list.
