Pirates sign infielder Wilmer Difo to Minor League deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms on a minor league contract with infielder Wilmer Difo, which includes an invitation to big league camp.

The 28-year-old Difo has a career average of .247 (236-for-954) with 29 doubles, 11 triples, 15 home runs and 79 RBI in 373 games since breaking into the big leagues with the Washington Nationals in 2015. Difo played in 12 games for the Nationals in 2020 before being outrighted to the club’s alternate training site on September 7.

Difo has made 154 appearances (107 starts) at second base, 108 appearances (89 starts) at shortstop, 37 appearances (30 starts) at third base, three appearances (two starts) in right field and two appearances (one start) in center field during his big league career.
