Pittsburgh Pirates statement regarding Kyle Crick health status

September 11th, 2019

Kyle Crick underwent extensor tendon repair surgery of the index finger on his right hand on Tuesday. The procedure was performed in San Francisco by Dr. Scott Hanson. Crick is projected to return to full competition in time for Spring Training 2020.

The injury occurred as a result of an altercation with Felipe Vázquez in the Pirates clubhouse prior to Monday’s game versus the San Francisco Giants.

The conduct violated the players’ contracts and they have been fined an undisclosed amount.

“The behavior exhibited by these two players last night is unacceptable, inconsistent with the standards expected of a Major League player and will not be tolerated by the organization,” said Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The Club will have no further comment on this matter.
