Red Sox recall left-handed pitcher Kyle Hart from alternate training site

Club Options RHP Robert Stock to Alternate Training Site

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Kyle Hart from the Alternate Training Site. To make room for Hart on the active roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Robert Stock to the Alternate Training Site following last night’s game.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Hart, 27, will be making his major league debut this afternoon when he starts for the Red Sox against the Tampa Bay Rays. The left-hander split the 2019 season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket, combining to go 12-13 with a 3.52 ERA (61 ER/156.0 IP) over 27 appearances (24 starts). Ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox’ No. 29 prospect entering the 2020 season, Hart led Boston’s minor leaguers last year in wins (12), innings pitched (156.0), and complete games (2), also ranking second in strikeouts (140). Selected by the Red Sox in the 19th round of the 2016 June Draft out of Indiana University, the Cincinnati, OH, native is 25-29 with a 3.13 ERA (147 ER/423.1 IP) in 77 career minor league appearances (71 starts).

Stock, 30, made one appearance for the Red Sox following his recall, allowing one unearned run in 1.1 relief innings on Tuesday against the Rays. He made his major league debut in 2018 and posted a 2.50 ERA (11 ER/39.2 IP) in 32 appearances – all in relief – with San Diego. He made the Padres’ 2019 Opening Day roster but spent most of the season with Triple-A El Paso, where he averaged 13.35 strikeouts per nine innings in 27 outings.
