Twins recall Travis Blankenhorn

Devin Smeltzer optioned to alternate training site

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have recalled infielder Travis Blankenhorn. Blankenhorn, who was on the Twins Taxi Squad, has appeared in 462 career minor league games. Blankenhorn split the 2019 season between Single-A Ft. Myers & Double-A Pensacola and combined to hit .277 (122-for-440) with 22 doubles, two triples, 19 home runs, 54 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and a .787 OPS in 108 games between both levels.

To make room for Blankenhorn on the 28-man roster, the Twins have optioned left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer to their alternate training site. Smeltzer, who will remain with the club as a member of the Taxi Squad, appeared in seven games (one start) for the Twins this season, going 2-0, with a 6.75 ERA (16.0 IP, 12 ER), five walks and 15 strikeouts.
