White Sox reinstate Adam Engel from injured list, option Romy Gonzalez to Class AAA Charlotte

DETROIT – Prior to today’s game at Detroit, the Chicago White Sox returned outfielder Adam Engel from his injury rehabilitation assignment with Class AAA Charlotte, reinstated him from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Romy Gonzalez to Charlotte.

Engel, 30, was placed on the injured list on August 16 (retroactive to August 13) with left shoulder inflammation and appeared in eight rehab games with Charlotte. He is hitting .248/.339/.505 (26-105) with six doubles, seven home runs, 18 RBI and 19 runs scored over 33 games with the White Sox in 2021.

Gonzalez, 24, is 8-32 (.250) with three doubles, two RBI and four runs scored in 10 games with Chicago since his contract selected from the Knights on September 1. He is hitting .275/.357/.525 (92-335) with 15 doubles, 23 home runs, 57 RBI, 58 runs scored and 22 stolen bases over 87 combined games with Class AA Birmingham (78 games) and Charlotte (nine) this season.
