Rockies reinstate Freeland from 10-day injured list

MILWAUKEE – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland from the 10-day IL (blister on his left middle finger) and optioned right-hander DJ Johnson to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Freeland, 25, was placed on the injured list April 22, his second career stint on the IL (also: Aug. 5-15, 2017 with a left groin strain) … has gone 2-3 with a 4.23 ERA (27.2 IP, 13 ER), 10 walks and 30 strikeouts in five starts this season … tossed six scoreless innings in his last start, April 18 vs. the Phillies … finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting in 2018 after going 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA (202.1 IP, 64 ER) … his 2.84 ERA was the lowest in a full season in franchise history and the fourth-lowest in the NL in 2018.

Johnson, 29, made his first career Opening Day roster … has gone 0-1 with a 5.59 ERA (9.2 IP, 6 ER), nine walks and nine strikeouts over 12 appearances with the Rockies this season … made his Major League debut on Sept. 9,2018 vs. Los Angeles-NL and allowed no runs with two strikeouts over 0.2 innings of work … across two seasons with Colorado, has gone 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA (16.0 IP, 9 ER), 11 walks and 18 strikeouts.

The Rockies currently have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
