Royals select Chelsor Cuthbert from Omaha; designate Chris Owings for assignment

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals announced that they have selected infielder Cheslor Cuthbert from Omaha (AAA). He will take the roster spot of infielder/outfielder Chris Owings, who was designated for assignment.

Cuthbert, 26, hit .310 (61-for-197) with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 51 games with Omaha this season, and ranks fourth in the Pacific Coast League in both hits and doubles (17). He’s hit safely in his last five games with Omaha, batting .438 (7-for-16) with two homers. Cuthbert hit .252 in 235 big league games with Kansas City from 2015-18.

Owings, 27, was signed to a one-year contract last December and hit .133 (18-for-135) in 40 games while making starts at second base (13), third base (9), center field (6), right field (4), shortstop (3) and left field (1).
