Seattle Mariners shortstop Tim Beckham has been named American League Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2019 season. It is the 2nd such honor in Beckham’s career (also: July 30-August 5, 2017).

Beckham, 29, hit .435 (10x23) with 8 runs, 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 6 RBI and 4 walks in the first 6 games of the season. He posted a .519 on-base percentage and a .913 slugging mark (1.432 OPS) while recording 5 extra-base hits. The 6-foot, 210-pound shortstop has hit safely in each of the first 6 games of the season, has scored a run in 5 of 6 games and has recorded an RBI in 3 of 6 games. Beckham became the 6th player in Mariners history to record at least 3 home runs in the club’s first 3 games of a season, joining Gorman Thomas (3, 1985), Ken Griffey Jr. (3, 1997), David Segui (3, 1998), Mike Morse (3, 2013) and Robinson Canó (4, 2016).
