Twins to recall Stewart and Romero from Triple-A Rochester

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they plan to recall right-handed pitchers Kohl Stewart and Fernando Romero from Triple-A Rochester. Stewart made three starts for the Red Wings this season, going 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA (12.0 IP, 8 ER), six walks and 15 strikeouts. Romero has appeared in four games for the Red Wings this season, posting a 4.32 ERA (8.1 IP, 3 ER) with two walks and 11 strikeouts. He was recalled on Saturday as the Twins 26th man for a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles and appeared in relief in the second game pitching 2.0 innings, allowing three earned runs.

To make room on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned outfielder Jake Cave and right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey to Triple-A Rochester. Cave appeared in 12 games for the Twins, hitting .233 (7-for-30) with one double, three RBI and four walks. Duffey appeared in four games for the Twins, allowing five runs (1 earned), on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Stewart, the Houston native, is scheduled to start tonight for the Twins against the Astros.
