CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have added right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease from Class AAA Charlotte to serve as the 26th man for today’s split doubleheader vs. Detroit.

Cease, 23, is rated by MLB Pipeline as the No. 3 prospect in the White Sox organization and No. 18 overall in baseball. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Cease is 5-2 with a 4.48 ERA (34 ER/68.1 IP) and 73 strikeouts over 15 starts this season with Charlotte.

He was named the MLB Pipeline Pitcher of the Year in 2018 after going 12-2 with a 2.40 ERA (33 ER/124.0 IP), 160 strikeouts and a .189 (82-434) opponents average over 23 starts between Class A Winston-Salem and Class AA Birmingham.

Cease was acquired by the White Sox from the Cubs on July 13, 2017 with outfielder Eloy Jiménez, infielder Bryant Flete and first baseman Matt Rose in exchange for left-hander José Quintana. He originally was selected by the Cubs in the sixth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Milton (Ga.) High School.

Cease will wear uniform No. 84. According to Baseball Reference, he will be the third player in major-league history to wear 84, joining Prince Fielder with Texas from 2014-16 and J.T. Snow with Boston in 2006.
