White Sox purchase contract of Evan Marshall from Triple-A, option Thyago Vieira

Prior to today’s doubleheader vs. Baltimore, the Chicago White Sox optioned right-handed pitcher Thyago Vieira to Class AAA Charlotte and purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Evan Marshall from Charlotte.

Marshall, 29, has gone 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA (10.0 IP), two saves and 13 strikeouts in nine relief appearances with Charlotte in 2019. He posted a 0.90 WHIP with one walk and no home runs allowed.

Marshall, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, has appeared in 101 games over parts of five Major League seasons with Arizona (2014-16), Seattle (2017) and Cleveland (2018), going 4-7 with a 5.15 ERA (53 ER/92.2 IP), 83 strikeouts and 25 holds.

Marshall, who will wear uniform No. 59, was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on October 30, 2018. He originally was selected by the Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2011 Draft.

Vieira, 26, did not appear in a game with the White Sox after being recalled from Charlotte on April 28.

The White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.
