White Sox roster moves for May 6

May 6th, 2019

Prior to today’s series opener at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox reinstated right-handed pitcher Ryan Burr from the 10-day injured list, purchased the contract of outfielder Charlie Tilson from Class AAA Charlotte and transferred right-handed pitcher Nate Jones to the 60-day injured list.

Burr and Tilson take the roster spots of left-hander Caleb Frare and outfielder Adam Engel, who were optioned to Charlotte following yesterday’s series finale vs. Boston.

Burr, 24, was placed on the injured list on April 28 (retroactive to April 25) with A/C joint inflammation in his right shoulder. He is 1-0 with a 5.68 ERA (8 ER/12.2 IP), 10 strikeouts and a .229 (11-48) opponents average over 10 relief outings with the White Sox this season.

Tilson, 26, is batting .333 (33-99) with seven doubles, two triples, one home run, 19 RBI, three stolen bases, a .396 on-base percentage and .475 slugging percentage over 25 games with Charlotte. He is tied for ninth in the International League in hits. The Wilmette, Ill. native appeared in 41 games with the Sox last season, hitting .264 (28-106) with one double, one triple, 11 RBI and two steals.

Jones, 33, has been diagnosed with a flexor pronator strain in his right forearm after being placed on the injured list on April 28. He has gone 0-1 with a 3.48 ERA (4 ER/10.1 IP), one save, two holds and 10 strikeouts in 13 relief appearances with the White Sox in 2019.

Following the moves, Chicago’s 40-man roster remains at 40.
