2023 Youth Baseball & Softball Impact

Nike PLAY BALL Day - June 14

The Baltimore Orioles along with The YMCA of Greater MD hosted 40 students from Waverly Elementary/Middle school for a Nike PLAY BALL clinic. Nike PLAY BALL weekend was created by MLB to get more youth active and playing sports.

The clinic consisted of drills to help the students learn the sport of baseball and be active outside. Stations gave students the opportunity to learn the skills of throwing, running, hitting, and catching, all while having fun.

Nike PLAY BALL Day - June 5

The Baltimore Orioles hosted students from Harlem Park Elementary Middle School as part of Nike PLAY BALL. The Orioles Bird and Orioles staff helped students learn the sport of baseball through fun drills and activities. All students received wiffle ball and bat sets as well as Orioles hats for participating.

Baltimore City vs. Baltimore County HS All-Star Game

High School senior baseball players from Baltimore City and Baltimore County schools, who were selected by their coaches, played in the first annual Baltimore City vs. Baltimore County High School All-Star Game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

MPSSAA Night

The Orioles recognized the 2023 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Baseball and Softball State Champions in a pregame ceremony on the field prior to an Orioles game.

Play Ball Day

The Oriole Bird and Orioles staff visited Bay Brook Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore to pass out Nike Orioles t-shirts and MLB Play Ball wiffle ball/bat sets to students.

P.L.A.Y. Clinic

Orioles Head Athletic Trainer, Brian Ebel, members of the Orioles Athletic Training Staff, Taylor Hooten Foundation, and Henry Schein Cares Foundation hosted the annual P.L.A.Y. Clinic for members of the South Baltimore Little League at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. As part of the clinic, the little leaguers completed drills, learned about the importance of proper nutrition and the danger of steroids, and participated in a Q&A with Orioles pitcher Grayson Rodriguez.

Challenger Baseball Clinic

The Oriole Advocates hosted their annual Challenger Baseball Fantasy Camp at Freedom Field Lake Waterfront Park in Pasadena, MD. More than 50 Challenger League baseball players, as selected by program leaders, participated in the one-day fantasy camp. All participants experienced a carnival-like atmosphere and Orioles Alumni Larry Bigbie and Rick Krivda taught pitching, hitting, and fielding fundamentals. The Oriole Bird was also in attendance and all players and attendees enjoyed a picnic after the clinic.

League of Dreams Beep Baseball Clinic

Orioles employees, alumni, the Oriole Bird and Nike RBI supported by Giant Food athletes volunteered at the League of Dreams’ annual Beep Baseball clinic at the Maryland School for the Blind. Volunteers assisted students in using adaptive equipment to play baseball.

Baltimore City High School Baseball Champions Night

The Orioles recognized the Baltimore City High School Baseball Division 1 and 2 Champions in a pregame ceremony on the field prior to an Orioles game. Baltimore Polytechnic Institute won the Division 1 title and Carver Vocational Technical High School won the Division 2 title.
