Phillie Phanatic Joins Volunteers Getting Ready for Community Tree Planting

November 17, 2023

On Wednesday, November 15, The Phillie Phanatic, Phillies Ballgirls, and Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Tree Tender volunteers met at a warehouse in Bridesburg to help distribute 1,770 trees to 90 of PHS’s Tree Tender groups, community organizations and neighborhood volunteers in preparation for this weekend’s city-wide tree planting led by PHS.

Among the distributed trees were 244 that were tagged with names of the Phillies top home run hitters this past season, including Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos, Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, and Alec Bohm.

These player-tagged trees are part of the Phillies Home Runs for Trees program in partnership with PHS and supported by PGW, where for each home run hit by a Phillies player, a tree is planted in the Greater Philadelphia area. Since the Phillies Home Runs for Trees program began, more than 2,000 trees have been planted.

This semi-annual tree planting creates and enhances the tree canopy in neighborhoods across the Philadelphia region to promote healthier, greener communities.
