48 years ago, the Beatles performed their last live concert ... at Candlestick Park

There have been some historic moments in Candlestick Park history -- World Series-clinching games, World Series-delaying earthquakes and all-time great NFL catches. But 48 years ago, the former home of the San Francisco Giants/49ers served as a send-off for one of music's greatest bands.

On August 29, 1966, the Beatles played their final official concert together at "The Stick" (although they would make one more surprise appearance a few years later). The Fab Four performed 11 songs, including "Rock and Roll Music," "I Feel Fine" and "Day Tripper":

Although it wasn't officially announced, most of the group realized this would be the last time they'd perform together, so they decided to get all they could out of the moment:

"Before one of the last numbers, we actually set up this camera, I think it had a fisheye, a wide-angle lens," George Harrison said. "We set it up on the amplifier and Ringo came off the drums, and we stood with our backs to the audience and posed for a photograph, because we knew that was the last show."

And just as Candlestick closed out the Beatles' career that year, former Beatle Paul McCartney returned the favor two weeks ago -- playing the stadium's final public event before its planned demolition in 2015.
