A brief history of the Mariners' collectible train cars
The Seattle Mariners have always been known for their creative, unique promotions, but here's one you probably haven't seen anywhere else. Starting in 2000, the Mariners have given away a different limited edition train car to fans each year as part of their Collectible Mariners Train Car series.
Past trains have included:
- Mariners Express Engine (2000)
- All-Star Car (2001)
- Gar (Edgar Martinez) Car (2002)
- Boonie (Bret Boone) Box Car (2003)
- Ichiro Express Engine (2004)
- Moose Caboose (2005)
- Adrian Beltre A-Train (2006)
- 30th Anniversary Car (2007)
- J.J. Putz Flamethrower Express (2008)
- Safeco Field 10th Anniversary Car (2009)
- Felix Hernandez High Octane Gas Car (2010)
- Mariners Go Green! Fan Train (2011)
- Justin "Smoakamotive" Train (2012)
This year's train, the "Tom Wilhelmsen Train Engine," features none other than Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen.
Each train comed on plastic track, and the tracks can be clipped together to form a brief history of the Mariners franchise.
