A day in the life of a D-backs groundskeeper

As fans enjoy pregame festivities at Chase Field, the D-backs grounds crew is hard at work preparing the playing surface for game action. While there's nothing out of the ordinary in tasks like raking the infield and painting the foul lines, one ritual is rather unusual.

Just before the first pitch, several members of the grounds crew take to the field with yellow handheld vacuums for a final touch-up.

Yes, like a Dustbuster.

The purpose is to suck up any stray trash that may have accumulated -- sunflower seeds, gum and even grass clippings.

So the next time a parent or spouse asks you to clean up your room, just be thankful it’s not the size of a Major League ballpark.

Check out the video interview with groundskeeper Nick Balistrieri for more on the Chase Field crew.
