A year-end list of year-end lists featuring Derek Jeter

A year-end list of year-end lists featuring Jeter

'Tis the season for peace on Earth, goodwill toward men and ranking everything that happened in 2014 before the ball drops and we all have to wait in line to use the treadmills at the gym.

2014 was the Year of Jeter (we're pretty sure they actually introduced a new astrological sign to commemorate the occasion). Thus, it's not much of a surprise that the Yankees' captain was prominently featured in a whole bevy of year-end listicles

In an effort to bid a final farewell to The Captain's MLB career, we decided to build a year-end list to rank the year-end lists that ranked Jeter among the top stories/photos/etc. of 2014.

10. The New York Post's thrills and heartbreaks of 2014 in New York sports

9. Boston.com's 20 stories that made Boston sports in 2014

You know you've had a significant impact on your sport when your rival is listing your retirement among the biggest stories of the season. Jeter came in at No. 9 on this list, just ahead of the Red Sox losing the Jon Lester sweepstakes and just behind David Ortiz's selfie with President Obama.

8. Dogster's top 10 sports-related dog names of 2014

They don't actually list the rest of the list, but a bullet about halfway down clearly specifies that Derek Jeter ranks among the top 10 in this illustrious category. Though, we're willing to guess that people are dropping the first name in most cases.

7. The most talked about MLB players and teams of 2014 according to Google

6. Ask.com's top celebrity searches of 2014

The Captain came in at No. 10, just two small spots behind Renee Zellweger. He's goin' places, this Derek Jeter guy. Also, Ask.com still exists?

5. The New York Daily News' top sports stories of 2014

4. The New York Times' 2014 The Year in Pictures

3. The Huffington Post's most popular baby names of 2014 (according to babycenter.com)

While neither Derek nor Jeter actually cracked the top 10 here, both saw such a surge in popularity that they'd be remiss not to mention them alongside the likes of Galina from Orange Is the New Black and Fitzgerald from Scandal.

2. The Washington Post's biggest trades, deals and decisions of 2014

Jeter's retirement earned the No. 3 rung on this ladder, right behind the Kevin Love trade and LeBron returning to Cleveland.
