A foul ball shot into the on-deck circle reveals Adeiny Hechavarria's true ninja identity
These are some things we knew about Adeiny Hechavarria:
He is a shortstop for the Miami Marlins.
He is 26 years old.
He's batting .309/.340/.757 this season.
Things we did not know about Hechavarria until Saturday's Marlins-Rockies game:
He is a ninja.
When Jeff Mathis fouled off a pitch from Rockies starter Chris Rusin in the fourth inning, the ball made a beeline to the on-deck circle, where Hechavarria was placidly awaiting his turn in the batter's box. While some might have simply watched the ball shoot by, Hechavarria snapped his arm out to snatch it in midair like a frog's tongue after a fly.
And so it was revealed: Hechavarria is a ninja with Venus flytrap reflexes. Someone add it to the scouting report.
