Alcides Escobar pops up a bunt ... double

Alcides Escobar hit a double in each game of the Royals' doubleheader sweep of the Rays on Tuesday. The second was a stand-up bases-clearing drive down the foul line after an 11-pitch at-bat. The first was on a bunt.

In the eighth inning of Game 1, Escobar popped up a curveball from Rays reliever Everett Teaford. He really popped it up. And when Teaford, catcher Curt Casali and third baseman Evan Longoria all converged on the ball, this happened:

Hey, it happens -- you dive for a ball and come up just short. Unfortunately for Teaford, he knocked the ball away with the tip of his glove and gave Escobar just enough time to scoot into second. It also helps that Escobar is pret-tay fast.

It was officially scored as a double -- not an error on Teaford -- good for Escobar's 14th on the season. Though he wouldn't have to wait long for No. 15.
