Alex Cobb's dog looks to make the Rays out of Spring Training
Reports show that Alex Cobb's dog, Axel, is heading into Spring Training in the best shape of his life.
The two-year-old American bulldog was at Tropicana Field on Tuesday and joined Rays players as they prepared for the 2013 season. Axel retrieved errant throws, supervised infield practice and tore, or more precisely, chewed the cover off the ball.
Axel made headlines earlier this year for his heroics at sea, and it's obvious from one look at the mangled baseball that he's in peak physical condition. Cobb's dog follows in a long line of Rays' dog superstars led by Astro, David Price's French bulldog, who received a miniature key to the city of Tampa back in December.
