Alfredo Simon interrupted his own one-hit shutout to throw a 53-mph eephus pitch

Simon throws 53-mph eephus pitch during one-hit gem

Alfredo Simon is no stranger to the eephus pitch. Earlier this season he put that ball on a string twice in one at-bat to mess with Twins veteran Torii Hunter :

But Thursday's game against the Rangers was a little different. Simon's game was on-point when Shin-Soo Choo stepped in, trailing by three runs in the top of the sixth. To that point, Simon had given up only one hit -- a double to Rougned Odor in the fifth.

His fastball was sizzling, his changeup was biting and the Rangers couldn't hit him. But that didn't mean that Simon was about to shy away from having a little fun. After starting Choo off with a first-pitch strike, he FIRED a 53-mph eephus pitch that missed out of the zone.

Simon ended up walking Choo -- one of only four baserunners he'd allow all night -- as the Tigers went on to win, 4-0.
