The All-Star catchers are decked out in gold for this year's Midsummer Classic

All-Star catchers wear gold-trimmed gear in Cincy

The MLB All-Star Game presented by T-Mobile features the best of the best of the best -- thus, it can be tough for a single member of the All-Star roster to stand out among the crowd. As the saying goes: When everyone's super, no one is.

That can prove even more difficult for the catchers, who also have to spend a large portion of the game covered up with masks and armor behind home plate. Thankfully, this year's backstops have come up with a solution:

Gold.

Yep. Don't be confused -- those guys you see behind the plate are not, in fact, grand old kings or emperors. They're just your good friends Yadi and Salvy. Oh, and not to be outdone, A's catcher Stephen Vogt took the motif down to the leg protectors as well:

Look, gold can be a bit ostentatious, yes, but given the situation, these guys can be forgiven. There are fireworks, musical acts, celebrities and baseball legends in the house at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday night -- if it's hard to shine in that group, why not shimmer?
