Astros score a run after Jose Altuve steals second, knocks ball out of sight

Jose Altuve steals second, knocks ball out of sight

After losing a two-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning to go down 5-4 to the Astros, the Blue Jays intentionally walked Jose Altuve in hopes of inducing a double play in the next at-bat. As usually happens when putting 2014's American League stolen base leader on first, the walk turned out to be a mistake.

Altuve took off for second, prompting the throw from Jays catcher Josh Thole. And then chaos struck.

The ball ricocheted off of Altuve's knee as he slid into second, missing Ryan Goins' glove and rolling out of sight. But Goins thought he had the ball, and in the time it took him to realize that it was actually still rolling three feet behind him, Jonathan Villar scored from third. Houston went up 6-4, the lead they'd maintain for the rest of the game.
