Babe Ruth's World Series watch, Shoeless Joe's bat fetch six figures at auction

We noted a few weeks ago that Babe Ruth's 1923 World Series pocket watch might sell for three quarters of a million dollars an auction this month. On Saturday, it came close.

The prized timepiece was purchased for $717,000 in New York City by an unknown buyer. With it comes memories of the Yankees' first Fall Classic victory and an incredible season from The Babe.

But the most popular baseball-themed item at the auction was Shoeless Joe Jackson's 1911 game-used bat, fetching a cool $956,000. Jackson delivered 233 hits and a .408/.468/.590 slash line that year for the Cleveland Naps.
