Back for the first time: Here's Bob Costas spitting Ludacris lyrics on MLB Network
Bob Costas. The venerable sportscaster has won the Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, the Curt Gowdy Media Award and eight National Sportscaster of the Year Awards. And from what we saw Tuesday, he could probably add a few Source Awards or Hip Hop Grammys if he wanted to.
As part of a discussion on MLB Network's MLB Now on Robinson Cano's signing with Jay-Z's management firm, Costas noted that Ludacris is "not the only [rapper], but the first one" to namecheck him in a song. He proceeded to lay down the relevant lyrics (specifically, from the track "Hip Hop Quotables"), leaving no doubt of his fire-spitting capabilities.
Ludacris' statement that "for a hefty fee I'm on your record like Bob Costas" is certainly an intriguing one. Is Costas available, like Luda has been for years, to appear as a featured artist on any rap track that requires some extra garnish? If so, producers have been missing out on a huge opportunity for years. One that we desperately hope will soon be taken advantage of.
