Baseball Song of the Week: Centerfield by John Fogerty

Hundreds of song have been written about baseball over the years -- from The Beastie Boys to The Boss to Bob Dylan. During offseason Fridays, we'll be highlighting our favorite tunes to send you into the weekend. This week: John Fogerty's Centerfield

Let's kick it off with one of the more popular baseball songs. John Fogerty's 1985 hit has it all -- from the stadium clap, clap, clap-clap-clap to home run sounds and lyrics that mention Willie Mays, Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio.

But more than the sights and sounds, Fogerty genuinely loves the game -- relating to the common fan with his "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play" chorus. Who hasn't wanted to lace up their cleats and play beside their favorite big leaguers for just one day? I mean, I'm not sure if center field is his best chance at some playing time, but maybe a corner slot or bullpen catcher?
