An adorable Phillies bat boy ran off with Ben Revere's lumber before his at-bat was over

Bat boy takes Revere's bat ... in the middle of an AB

It's a pretty cool gig, being a bat boy -- getting to hang around your sports heroes, wearing your team's uniform, occasionally dodging oncoming fastballs, all the stuff of childhood dreams. So it's understandable that you'd want to take the job seriously, making sure no piece of baseball equipment is out of place on your watch. Just, um, try not to take it quite as seriously as this adorable bat boy did during Sunday's Phillies-Nationals game, when he decided that Ben Revere's bat needed to be returned to the dugout ... after a foul ball:

In his defense, that was a pretty tricky situation -- the ball looked like it could very well stay fair, and he was only guilty of overzealousness. Being the chosen Child of the Bats, removing lumber is his true calling, after all.

And besides, if Dusty Baker's son taught us anything, it's that no one can stay mad at a tiny bat boy who just wants to help.
