Boy with famous baseball-playing great-grandma takes in Cardinals game

Luke Georgiou, the great-grandson of former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League ballplayer Vickie Panos, attended his first baseball game in the U.S. on Tuesday. The 14-year-old Australian and his parents watched the Cardinals and Dodgers square off at Busch Stadium.

Born in Canada, Panos played one season in 1944 for the South Bend Blue Sox and Milwaukee Chicks. The speedy outfielder was a star, scoring 84 runs and stealing 141 bases for the eventual AAGPBL Championship-winning Chicks. Panos later married an Australian WWII airman and settled in Australia.

Georgiou is currently in St. Louis for an international baseball tournament featuring clubs from Australia, Europe, Japan and the U.S.

Georgiou's mom says her late grandmother would be thrilled that Luke is continuing the family tradition of playing baseball on American soil.
