Buzz the Tower: Will Middlebrooks Edition

MLB.com's Kathy Anderson catches up with players when they visit Rogers Centre, located underneath the CN Tower in Toronto. The latest victim: Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks.

Anderson: Welcome to Toronto, is it your first time?
Middlebrooks: Yes it is.

Since arriving, have you been mistaken for former Toronto Argonauts defensive back Willie Middlebrooks?
No. I've heard of him though, he played for Minnesota I think.

OK, we all want to know: How'd you bag a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader?
Uhh ... tricked her (Laughs). No we grew up in the same town and went to middle school together. Then we went to separate high schools but reconnected when she was in college and I was in my second or third offseason.

As Paris would say, that's hot. Speaking of heat, apparently you can throw a 90-mph fastball.
Ha yeah, I actually almost signed as a pitcher. I was supposed to, and then I hurt my shoulder right before the draft.

Well you're doing ok now, I guess.
Yeah, it worked out. I didn't want to pitch anyways.

So if the whole bullpen was depleted and you were not the first position player to pitch, would you be offended?
It's already happened! Darnell McDonald pitched against Baltimore in a 17-inning game.

Well it may be your turn next.
Maybe.

Who is more accurate: You, or your good friend Ryan Mallet, who plays for the New England Patriots?
Accurate? I'd have to say Mallet. He's an NFL quarterback. I'd love to say me but I can't say that -- I was a high school quarterback.

Who gets more free clam chowder?
Um … I don't know, that's close. I'll go with me, because I've played more.

Legit. OK, lastly: Have you been up the CN Tower?
No. Yesterday when we came in it was really cloudy -- you couldn't even see halfway up.

It was foggy eh? Well we have a thing called the 'Edge Walk' where you can strap yourself in and walk around the top. Would you do that?
Absolutely.

OK, next time you come we'll do it?
We'll do it.

-- @kathsport is the Realtime Correspondent north of the border. She's too scared to do the Edge Walk. But don't tell Will that, he's meeting her up there.
