The scene: Tuesday's sixth inning at Fenway Park. Rays second baseman Ben Zobrist hooks Junichi Tazawa's 2-1 offering into the left-field stands:

The ball ricochets off an empty seat and rolls to a stop two rows from the nearest spectators. At this point, it's completely up for grabs.

Seconds later, several early contenders -- White Shirt Bro, Standing Man, Flatliners -- have called off the hunt and a trio of favorites emerge:

This whole sequence is a vote in favor of quick reflexes and direct routes over pure speed when tracking a ball. Sox Jacket Guy wasn't even in the same section when Tazawa threw the pitch. Long Hair Dude has already leapt over two rows of seats. And Green Hat Girl, fully recovered from her earlier terror, is in full sprint.
