Coach yanks high school hurler one out shy of all-K perfecto
Every once in a while, a pitcher will come within inches of perfection only to have it ripped away in the most painful fashion. Just ask Armando Galarraga or Mike Mussina
High school hurler Ryan Olson, pitching for Western Christian School in Upland, Calif., may have set a new standard for "most excurutiating way to lose a perfecto" when his coach pulled him after retiring the first 20 batters -- all by strikeout -- in a game against Calvary Murrieta on Thursday.
The game was Western Christian's senior day, and coach Monse Estrada wanted to let one of his seniors get in his work on the mound. A chance at perfection and strikeout history wouldn't stand in the way of that veteran player's special moment.
So what do you think -- did Coach Estrada make the right call? Is a younger player's chance at history more important than a senior's crowning moment?
