Colin Kaepernick meets Sergio Romo, puts serious heat on first pitch
We're not sure about this, but that photo definitely makes it look like Romo has got a camera in his glove and is taking a selfie with the 49ers QB. And why not? After a Giants World Series victory and a 49ers NFC championship, it would make sense to commemorate and/or Instagram one of the most successful San Francisco sports years ever.
Similarly to fellow QB phenom Russell Wilson (who actually played Minor League ball in the Rockies' organization), Kaepernick was a prep baseball star who was drafted as a pitcher by the Cubs in 2009. He decided to focus on his football career instead, but he's surely well-equipped for ceremonial first pitches like he threw before the Marlins-Giants game on Friday. This is quite likely the fastest one we've ever seen:
It was measured by the in-stadium radar gun at 87 mph, an impressive showing that Kaepernick is nevertheless determined to improve upon with some more training next year:
87 on the first pitch.... Not too bad next year I'm goin to spring training to get ready! #sfgiants http://t.co/LJCqw81dXF
