College coaches Beilein, Weber and Stewart take in a Cards game
Basketball coaches John Beilein (University of Michigan), Bruce Weber (Kansas State) and Norm Stewart (former head coach at University of Missouri) were at Busch Stadium on Tuesday to participate in Cardinals pregame ceremonies. All were in town for meetings of Coaches vs. Cancer, a foundation which Stewart founded.
For Beilein in particular, the chance to catch a Cardinals game brought special meaning. Growing up in a small town near Buffalo, N.Y., he remembered listening to Cardinals games at night as far back as 1963, thanks to the powerful KMOX broadcast signal.
"It's neat getting the chance to go up to the radio booth and see Mike Shannon," Beilein said. "I can remember listening to games when he was a player and when he first started broadcasting."
These days, Beilein relies on his KMOX mobile app to listen to games whenever he gets the chance.
"Forty-nine years as a Cardinal fan. That ain't bad."
