A baseball refused to leave Daniel Murphy's glove because they're best friends forever and ever

BFFs: A ball refused to leave Daniel Murphy's glove

Ever since Bill Watterson ended Calvin and Hobbes' comic strip run in 1995, the world has been looking for a joyful human/anthropomorphized-object pair of best friends to replace it. On Thursday night, the world found its answer: Daniel Murphy and a baseball.

As evidence, just look at the great time they had together during the Mets-Phillies game. First, in the 10th inning with the game tied, 5-5, Murphy was the fulcrum of what could be the strangest 1-3-1 putout you'll ever see:

Then, in the top of the 13th inning, Murphy hit a two-run double that gave the Mets the lead (and ultimately the win):

Together, it seemed that there was nothing Murphy and a baseball couldn't do. They were a dream team, a duo to rival Batman and Robin. They were the literal definition of BFFs … forever and ever. And ever and ever:

After Murphy retired Ryan Howard in the bottom of the 13th inning, the baseball simply refused to leave his glove. Why would it? Like a pair of grade school besties, it never wanted to leave Murphy's side.

Alas, the game had to go on -- which explains Murphy's less-than-cheerful reaction. Sometimes, your best friend just needs a little tough love.
