David Cone pitches in to support YAI
David Cone once pitched a perfect game for the Yankees, and on Saturday evening he pitched in to help a greater cause: The Young Adult Institute (YAI). Since 1957, the YAI Network has been providing hope and opportunity to people of all ages with developmental disabilities and their families.
The event was held at Foley's Pub in New York City. Cone participated as a guest bartender for the night, serving drinks to fans and patrons. After his time behind the bar was finished, David took some time to talk with fans, take pictures, and sign autographs with all proceeds going toward YAI.
A raffle was conducted as well, with a few interesting prizes given out. One fan received an "Ultimate Bleacher Creature experience" with Bald Vinny, and another received a Mariano Rivera autographed bat.
Connie Schwab, who was introduced to YAI during HOPE Week in 2009 while working for the Yankees' media relations department, put the event together. "It absolutely means the world to the charity to have the support of David Cone, and for me, having my Yankees family rally around my YAI family and help us raise money for a good cause, I'm blown away by the generosity."
Had a great night @foleysny last night. Thanks to everyone. I found my personality in the bottom of a shot glass. #myheadhurts
