David Ortiz is the subject of a new EPIX documentary

From growing up in the Dominican Republic, to signing with the Mariners, to starting his career with the Twins, to superstardom and three World Series titles with the Red Sox, it's been quite a ride for David Ortiz. His larger-than-life persona seems suited for a movie -- and the people at EPIX clearly think so too.

The premium cable channel will air "David Ortiz In the Moment," a documentary that's described as "a close-up look at the life and accomplishments" of Big Papi. In a press release, Ortiz himself said that "very few people get to see my life outside of baseball, I am looking forward to sharing my story with all my fans."

The film, which was co-produced with Major League Baseball Productions and Relativity Sports, is the third in EPIX's "In the Moment" series, which has previously featured Lindsey Vonn and Amar'e Stoudemire. "David Ortiz In the Moment" will air on EPIX on July 17.
