Denard Span compares himself to Urkel, credits his Stefan-esque alter ego with walk-off win
Denard Span says he's Steve Urkel, credits his Stefan

Nationals center fielder Denard Span is batting .302 with 34 doubles and 27 steals this season, so it seems a little odd that he's comparing himself to Steve Urkel -- the accident-prone dweeb from the '90s sitcom Family Matters. But when you get down into the guts of his comparison, it begins to make sense.

On Thursday night, Span and the Nationals won their 10th straight ballgame, which also happened to be their fifth walk-off victory in six contests. It all started with a ninth-inning single by Span, who proceeded to steal second base to get himself into scoring position. When D-backs third baseman Jordan Pacheco overthrew first base on the next play, it allowed Span to come around and score the winning run on the walk-off error.
After the game, Span was asked about his clutch swipe of second base:
So, basically, Span's baseline is Urkel and the guy who shows up in the clutch is Stefan. Wait, does this mean that the Nats have a clubhouse Trans Chamber and a stash of chlorodoxycycline?!
