Hope you're ready for "small in Japan" jokes because Derek Jeter went to a sumo match on Thursday and met a wrestler who didn't know who he was.
The Captain is in Japan this week leading up to his charity baseball game -- co-starring former Yankee Hideki Matsui -- to benefit the survivors of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
While Jeets and his model girlfriend Hannah Davis were in the crowd at the Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka, he had the opportunity to meet some of the talent participating in the event, including 16th-ranked maegashira wrestler, Chiyomaru. Jeter's reputation didn't exactly precede him.
Accoring to Japan Times:
"I didn't realize who it was," Chiyomaru told reporters. "You have to tell me earlier."
Top-ranked maegashira Tochiozan recognized Jeter as a ballplayer but was fuzzy on the details.
"He was a catcher or something like that, wasn't he?" Tochiozan asked with a straight face.
