Derek Jeter ties Lou Gehrig for most doubles as a Yankee

Jeter ties Gehrig for all-time Yankees doubles mark

Hey, did you guys know that Derek Jeter is retiring? It's true. I read it somewhere.

As of Tuesday, Jeter held Yankees-best marks in career plate appearances, at-bats, hits, singles, strikeouts, stolen bases and games played. After Tuesday's contest with the Rays, Jeter was one step closer to having a new feather to stick in that cap he's always tipping as he matched Lou Gehrig's record for most doubles as a Yankee.

In the bottom of the fourth, The Captain lofted a ball to deep center field that found the gap thanks to the Rays outfielders shading toward right field.

Jeter Double

The double was the 534th of Jeter's impressive career as a Yankees batsman and it came 76 years after Gehrig set the bar at its current height. We're sure that back then Gehrig was also welcomed to away venues by fans rocking their finest kitty-cat singlets because time is a flat circle.
