On Global Tiger Day, the Tigers are lending their big cat namesakes a helping paw

July 29 is Global Tiger Day -- a day created a few years ago to raise awareness about the endangered status of Earth's largest cat. As the day's official site notes, the wild tiger population has gone from about 100,000 in 1913 to a little more than 3,000 today.
One group that's taking the day as an opportunity to help tigers? The Detroit Tigers:
Happy Global Tiger Day! Join us in supporting wild tiger conservation by donating at the Pennies for PAWS bank at Comerica Park!

Pennies for Paws was started by Karie Ross, Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski's wife. Since its founding five years ago it's raised more than $53,000 for tiger conservation efforts. Paws is also the name of Detroit's mascot, who is very happy his team is helping his relatives out:
It's Global Tiger Day! Help support my wild tiger friends by donating to pennies for PAWS next time you're at Comerica Park.
