The Dodgers reacted to Corey Seager's first career home run with the customary silence
Corey Seager got silent treatment after first MLB HR
Dodgers super prospect and noted "New Girl" fan Corey Seager hit his first career home run on Saturday night, launching a solo shot in the sixth inning of Los Angeles' 9-5 win over the D-backs. He was probably pretty amped up about it -- the Dodgers fans at Chase Field and the broadcast team certainly were. And yet, from his teammates: crickets.
Aside from a quick high-five from manager Don Mattingly upon entering the dugout, Seager was ignored following his home run. Not even the batboy acknowledged him. See, look at all the empty space where the congratulatory celebration should be:
Ah yes, the classic first-homer silent treatment. It applies even when you're the team's top prospect and your inaugural homer comes during two consecutive games when you reach base every time you appear at the plate. But don't worry, Seager eventually received the reaction his night deserved:
And Seager didn't seem to mind the momentary shunning. "It comes with being a rookie. I kind of embrace it and it's a lot more fun that way," he told MLB.com's Ken Gurnick after the game. And why would he mind, when his game put him in this kind of company?
Corey Seager is the first player 21 or younger to go 4-for-4 (or better) with a HR and a SB in the same game since Ken Griffey Jr. in 1989.
