Five last-minute handmade gifts for that special baseball fan in your life

Five last-minute handmade baseball gifts

Just remembered that you need a gift for the baseball superfan in your life? Terrified of venturing to the mall where you may need to defeat someone in bloodsport for a parking space? Have no fear, we're here to help.

Using only the things that you can probably find around your house or in your neighbor's backyard, you can make sure that your friend or loved one wakes up to a great surprise on Thursday morning.

1. Autographed baseball

"Autographed baseball?" you say. "Wouldn't I need to go to the store for that?"

Ahh, that's where you're wrong. Just grab an old baseball that you may have lying around in your backyard or garage. With a Sharpie, you can sign an autograph from any Major League player in the history of the game. Even better, you can customize it.

I mean, they did that in Sandlot and it worked out pretty OK, right?

2. A Jersey

Meant to order a Giancarlo Stanton jersey for the homer-loving person in your life and now it's too late? Don't worry -- just find a white button down shirt and turn it into a jersey. This one works even better if you have colored markers.

Boom. Ten minutes later and you have a handmade gift that shows you really love the recipient. They may not even notice a difference:

And if you're artistically gifted (like me), you can even give it a bit of flourish that they'll surely appreciate:

3. Baseball card

With just a little light Facebook stalking, you can make a fun and very personal baseball card. Just print out a nice picture of them and then either bust out the crayons or open up Word:

4. Food

What does everyone love? Food! But don't just make a few baseball pancakes and baseball bat sausage links -- anyone can do that.

Instead, make a realistic 1/1,000th size replica of Yankee Stadium out of gingerbread. Or a bust of David Ortiz made out of M&M's. Get creative -- this is your time to shine.

5. Tell the truth

If all else fails, tell the truth. Admit to your friend that you really wanted to give them a gift, but you forgot ... about the roving gang of marauders that have been terrifying your local area. While you were picking up wrapping paper, they broke in and stole all the Ken Griffey Jr. autographed gear that was in the car so they could buy more gas for their post-apocalyptic cage matches.

You just have to hope the giftee has not seen "Mad Max" yet.
